From 1992-1998, the Virginia Duals featured a small college quad. The Small College Division started in 1999 and was renamed the American College Division in 2003.
From the outset of the Virginia Duals, teams have been wrestling quad-meet style events against opponents to highlight individual matchups. In 1995, the National High School Division was started, then two more high school divisions started in 1996. In 1981, Menchville beat Cox to win a four-team tournament at the first Virginia Duals, but it would be 14 years before the tournament format was brought back for the high schools.
